:: Personality ::
Kind, compassionate, and giving- There really didn't seem to be a bad bone in Misthawk's body.:: History ::
Mistkit was born into a litter of four, and was the quietest of them all. She was shy and nervous, and it often took her siblings a long time to convince her to play, and it was rare that her mother could get her to come out of the nursery. Because of this timid beginning, Mistkit learned early on the values that would define her personality and, ultimately, the rest of her life. Namely, not to judge a book by it's cover, to be patient and kind, to recognize when it was time to push someone or coax them. She always thought about others before herself, even at a young age.
Apprenticeship
Apprenticed to Spiderface, the shy Mistkit was surprised when the warrior most well-known for his prickly and icy personality was so warm and gentle with her. He pushed her to her limits, demanding her best, but he never made her do anything she was terrified of without explaining it, and he never made her do anything he did not first show her himself. She had trouble with running silently through the tall grasses of their territory, but delighted in battle training. She felt very close to her mentor, because it was around this time that she discovered that the strange feeling she'd experienced all her life, the root of her shyness, was that she really felt like a he, and presenting himself as a she-cat taxed him like nothing else.
Mistpaw kept his secret for a long time, until finally he absolutely had to tell someone. The only cat he felt close enough to was Spiderface. When he told him, Spiderface wasn't at all surprised, and accepted Mistpaw wholeheartedly. Together, they broke the news to the clan. First to those who they knew would accept Mistpaw for who he was, and then to those who they thought would be less welcoming.
At last free of the burden, Mistpaw flourished and came out of his shell more and more each day.
Adulthood
Mistflower quite liked the warrior name he was given, because he really did feel that it fit. But it wasn't perfect, and it gnawed at him each day until he drummed up the courage to ask Blizzardstar for a different one. He didn't even know if that would be allowed. He enlisted Spiderface to help him, and with that moral support, Mistflower found that Blizzardstar was quite happy to change his name. Now Misthawk, there was a second order of business and perhaps a new secret- his feelings for his previous mentor.
In Misthawk's view, there was nothing else to do. The worst Spiderface could say was "no." So, nervous and fidgeting, he asked if Spiderface would mind horribly if Misthawk courted him. To Misthawk's great relief, the surprised Tom welcomed him gladly, with an endearing amount of shyness in return.
They hunted together, ate together, fought together. It was not often that you found one without the other.
And then the badger.
A badger had been sighted close to the Meadowclan camp, and the nursery was potentially in danger. Misthawk was part of the party that volunteered to try to drive it away. The party was successful, but at a cost. Several cats died in the battle. Misthawk was not one of them, but he did lose an eye to the beast.
After a few weeks in the Medicine Cat's den, it was clear that Misthawk would be fine. He could even adapt to having lost one side of his field of vision. Around this time, he and Spiderface agreed that it was worth it to try for kits.
Their attempt was successful, and Misthawk gave birth to six children; a large litter. An unfortunate side-effect, two were stillborn. He had never been happier, really. His kits were his life, and he always mourned the two that never got to grow up, even knowing that sometimes that just happens.
Death
Misthawk died a mysterious death. One day, he got sick. He never got better- only worse. Until one night, with Spiderface by his side, he passed into the paws of StarClan. He never even lived to see his kits become Apprentices. He was met in Starclan by his mother, many moons since passed, and when he arrived, Misthawk broke down like a kit with grief. He chose to keep his scars, yet return to a younger body. His scars reminded him of his duty to his clan, and the acceptance that cats can show. From Starclan, he watches his former Mate, and his kits.
